Destruction Warlock in WoW: Forever — Complete Level 10–60 Guide: Talent Order, Conflagrate, Incinerate, Shadow and Flame & the Level-60 Builds

This is the complete level 10–60 guide for Destruction, the Warlock burst spec, which Forever rebuilt around Fire, Shadow and a new capstone, Incinerate. It follows our Warlock starter guide, Affliction guide and Demonology guide. Forever launches Nov 4, 2026 with a level cap of 60. The beta is over, and it never went above level 30. Everything from 31 to 60 below comes from the client's talent data, trainer lists and guide authors' theorycraft, not from anyone playing it, and we flag where sources disagree. Client data is current to build 70532 (ForeverDB, Oct 20).

Why Destruction, and what it costs

ForeverDB calls Destruction the spec for "Fire and Shadow burst around Immolate, Conflagrate and, from 40, Incinerate", and says Blizzard built it to use both schools. It also calls it "weakest early": before 25 it is a Shadow Bolt caster with Immolate, and it levels slower than Affliction until Conflagrate. stillsixty agrees (weak before 25, Incinerate waits until 40), and Elitistgaming doesn't give Destruction a leveling route at all.

  • Level it on its own, or level Affliction or Demonology and respec at 60. ForeverDB and Elitistgaming both lean the second way, because of the slow start. We give TopBuilds' all-Destruction order below, since it is the only published one and it is complete. Neither route has been played past 30. We found no published respec cost, so check it at the trainer.
  • The raid build has no pet. Demonic Sacrifice ends the moment you summon any demon (stillsixty).
  • Threat. Big crits pull aggro and this spec has no threat reduction talent in its own tree (stillsixty). Searing Pain and Hellfire make a lot of threat in groups, and Hellfire burns you every second for as much as it hits each enemy (ForeverDB).
  • Immolate is the engine. A dispelled or expired Immolate costs Conflagrate and Incinerate damage together (stillsixty).

Talent order by level (Destruction, 10–60)

This is TopBuilds' leveling order (updated Oct 24), which ends at 35 Destruction / 16 Affliction. Conflagrate arrives at level 29 here, not at 25, because TopBuilds buys Destructive Reach, Cataclysm and Agonizing Flames before it.

LevelsTalentRank reachedTreeWhat it does

17–19Cataclysm3/3Destruction10% cheaper Destruction spells at 3/3

50–54Improved Corruption5/5AfflictionCorruption is instant and does 10% more damage at 5/5 (ForeverDB)
55–56Improved Life Tap2/2Affliction+20% mana from Life Tap at 2/2
57–59Fel Concentration3/3AfflictionChance to resist pushback on channels and casts, now 3 ranks (ForeverDB); stillsixty says 70% at 3/3
60Malevolence1/5Affliction+5% Shadow crit chance at 5/5

Talent rows open every five levels: row 2 at 15, row 3 at 20, row 4 at 25, row 5 at 30, row 6 at 35 and row 7 at 40. Conflagrate needs 15 points in Destruction, Incinerate needs Bane of Havoc, and Shadow and Flame (tier 6) needs 25 points.

  • stillsixty (Sept 29), level 30, 0/0/21: Bane 5 at 10–14, Aftermath 5 at 15–19, Ruin 5 at 20–24, Conflagrate at 25, Agonizing Flames 3 at 26–28, Cataclysm 1 at 29 and Fire and Brimstone 1 at 30. It says to put Cataclysm and Fire and Brimstone into Molten Skin if you take too much damage, or the Cataclysm point into Destructive Reach if you kite more than you tank.
  • ForeverDB (client 70532), level 30, 0/0/21: Destructive Reach 2, Bane 5, Cataclysm 3, Ruin 5, Shadowburn, Agonizing Flames 3, Conflagrate and Bane of Havoc, tagged as tested in the beta. It has no Aftermath, and offers Improved Shadow Bolt 5 in place of Destructive Reach and Cataclysm. Its separate leveling order is a hybrid: Improved Corruption 5 at 10–14, Soul Harvest 2, Bane 5 at 17–21, Cataclysm 3, Aftermath 2, Shadowburn at 27, Improved Life Tap 2, then Unholy Power 5 from 30, Demonic Energies, Fel Vitality and Improved Sayaad in the 30s and 40s, Demonic Aegis, Demonic Brand, Ruin 4/5 at 48–51, Conflagrate only at 52, Agonizing Flames at 53–55, Bane of Havoc at 57 and Suppression 3 at 58–60. It has no Incinerate, and it is nearly the same order as its Demonology page, so we don't follow it.
  • TopBuilds (table above) is the closest to ForeverDB's level 30 build: Destructive Reach 2, Bane 5, Cataclysm 3, Ruin 5, Agonizing Flames 3, Shadowburn at 28, Conflagrate at 29 and Bane of Havoc at 30. It has no Aftermath and no Demonology points.
  • Elitistgaming (build 70338): no leveling route of its own; level as Affliction or Demonology and respec.
  • Where Incinerate fits: TopBuilds takes it at 40, ForeverDB's PvP build at level 40 as the 31st point, and ForeverDB's leveling order never takes it.
  • Where Aftermath goes: stillsixty and ForeverDB's level 60 build take it at 5/5 (a 50% slow on every Conflagrate), TopBuilds skips it, and Elitistgaming takes only 2 of the 5 ranks.
  • Out of date: stillsixty and Elitistgaming predate the Oct 15 build, with Malediction and the old racials.

What Destruction does differently in Forever

(From stillsixty's and ForeverDB's talent text, build 70532.)

  • Conflagrate (tier 4, from 25): instant Fire damage on a target with your Immolate, every 10 seconds. It consumes the Immolate until Shadow and Flame 5/5. Trainer ranks come at 32, 40, 48, 54 and 60.
  • Shadow and Flame (tier 6, 5 ranks): Conflagrate raises your Shadow damage by 10% for 20 seconds and Shadowburn raises your Fire damage by 10%. At 5/5 Conflagrate never consumes Immolate and Shadowburn always refunds its Soul Shard.
  • Fire and Brimstone (tier 5, 3 ranks): +25% crit chance for Conflagrate at 3/3.
  • Bane of Havoc (tier 5): for 5 minutes, 15% of the damage you deal to other targets is also dealt to the target with the Bane. It is also the prerequisite for Incinerate.
  • Incinerate (tier 7): a 2.5-second Fire nuke with 25% more damage on a target with your Immolate. Trainer ranks come at 50 and 60.
  • Bane now also speeds up Incinerate, Aftermath raises Immolate's first hit by 50% and gives Conflagrate a 100% daze chance, Ruin has five ranks up to +100% crit damage bonus, and Agonizing Flames adds 10% damage to all Destruction spells.
  • Shadowburn refunds a Soul Shard if the target dies within 8 seconds (it was 5). Its cooldown is 15 seconds.
  • Molten Skin (tier 2): 10% less damage taken at 5/5. Intensity: a 70% chance to keep casting a Destruction spell through damage.
  • Demonic Sacrifice now sits in tier 3 of Demonology. A Succubus or Incubus gives +15% Fire damage for 2 hours.
  • Firestone is a weapon enchant: up to +21 Fire damage and +2% spell crit at rank 4.

Levels 10–30: your first 20 levels

  • 10–24: a Shadow Bolt caster with Immolate (ForeverDB). Voidwalker from the class quest at 10 (a chain ending in The Binding), Corruption and Bane of Agony on mobs with a lot of health, and skip them on mobs that die in three spells (stillsixty).
  • 18: Searing Pain, which with Agonizing Flames crits often. Use it when the mob is almost dead (stillsixty).
  • 20: Demon Armor, Curse of the Elements and the Succubus or Incubus quest. Shadowburn becomes available for Destruction (ForeverDB).
  • 25: Conflagrate if you follow stillsixty's order. TopBuilds takes it at 29.
  • 30: Hellfire, Subjugate Demon and the Felhunter quest.

Level-60 raid loop (ForeverDB, marked unconfirmed in its data; stillsixty agrees on the shape).

  1. Before the pull: summon a Succubus or Incubus and cast Demonic Sacrifice for +15% Fire damage for 2 hours. Don't summon any demon afterwards, because it cancels the sacrifice. Put a Firestone or oil on your weapon.
  1. Your curse (Curse of the Elements by default), then Immolate, kept up all fight.
  1. Shadowburn on cooldown (15 seconds): it starts Shadow and Flame's 10% Fire buff and the shard comes back.
  1. Conflagrate on cooldown (10 seconds).
  1. Bane of Doom on a boss that lives past a minute.
  1. Below 35% health: Searing Pain once to start Decimation, then Soul Fire each time it's off cooldown (stillsixty).
  1. Incinerate as your filler.
  1. Two targets: Bane of Havoc on the second target and keep killing the first. Havoc shares the Bane slot with Doom, so Havoc goes on the add, Doom on the boss (stillsixty).
  1. Packs: Rain of Fire on a tight pack (Pyroclasm can stun), Hellfire in melee range of the pack (it can crit and burns you too), and Howl of Terror from 40.

While leveling (ForeverDB): Shadow Bolt pre-cast as the pull, Immolate, Corruption if the mob will live a while, Conflagrate late in Immolate's duration (it consumes Immolate), Searing Pain on weak mobs, and Shadowburn on a dying target for the shard. stillsixty adds: if the Voidwalker dies, Immolate the mob, Conflagrate it and walk out of range while it crawls.

Stats (ForeverDB): spell power, hit, haste, crit, Spirit, Intellect, then Stamina, and it says crit needs more testing before it moves above haste. stillsixty's raid order is Hit, spell power, crit, Intellect, Stamina. It notes Destruction has no hit talent in its own tree, so every point of hit comes from gear (or Suppression, which Elitistgaming and ForeverDB's builds take). The Spellstone now gives spell haste.

What the recent builds changed

  • Oct 16: a target can no longer carry several Curse of Recklessness debuffs.
  • Oct 15 racials: see the table below. Human Ruthless replaced Sword Specialization, Orc Blood Fury is 3 minutes, Undead Touch of the Grave is 30% with a 25-sec cooldown and Troll Regeneration is 20%.
  • Wands need you to stand still for 0.5 sec before shooting.
  • Grim Reach replaced Malediction, Destructive Reach now covers Destruction spells only, and Shadow Mastery is 2/4/6/8/10% (was 1–5%).
  • Fixes (build 70425): Soul Link can be cast on your pet again, and the Incubus no longer summons without a shard under the Reagent Economy legacy perk.
  • Oct 8: your current demon is stunned while you summon a new one, Shadow Bolt ranks 1–4 were smoothed, and only Shadow damage from Demonic Brand is high threat.
  • Oct 1: Gnome Eureka! stopped boosting DoTs, aggressive pet mode returned, Nightfall triggers less often from far-below-level ranks, a new cast ends a Drain Soul channel, Hellfire can crit, and Soul Harvesting became Soul Harvest with working mana regeneration. Dungeon quest XP was cut to about 2.2× Classic's.
  • Sept 24: wands stopped scaling with spell power.

Racials for a Warlock:

RaceOct 15 change
HumanSword Specialization replaced with Ruthless: 2% crit chance. The Human Spirit (+5% Spirit) still feeds Life Tap
OrcBlood Fury cooldown now 3 min. Shatter Curse now dispels Curses and Banes (was immunity), and magic damage taken drops 5% (was 15%). Axe Specialization replaced with Savage: 1% crit chance
UndeadTouch of the Grave now has a 30% chance for casters, with a 25-sec cooldown (was 10%)
TrollRegeneration up to 20% (was 10%)
GnomeEureka! is now an 8-sec buff with no charges. It still doesn't boost DoTs (since Oct 1)

Soul shards, stones and bags

  • Drain Soul always gives a shard on a kill, and its ticks sometimes do. Trivial (grey) mobs give nothing. Shards still don't stack (WoW Forever DB), so the Small Soul Pouch (20) and the 16-slot Box of Souls from the Felhunter quest (30) matter. Tailors can make bigger soul bags.
  • Keep about five shards. That covers a re-summon, a Healthstone, a Soulstone and a summon.
  • Conjured stones disappear if you stay logged out for more than 15 minutes.

Professions

  • Tailoring + Enchanting is the pick at Icy Veins, wowf.io, WoW Forever DB, ForeverDB and stillsixty. Tailoring makes the Shadow cloth pieces that top the level 20 and 30 gear lists (only the tailor who made them can wear them, and they boost Shadow damage only). Enchanting makes your wands (Lesser and Greater Magic Wand, Lesser Mystic Wand) and the Orb of Mystic Insight.
  • For gold: stillsixty suggests Herbalism with Mining or Skinning, then switching at 60. Grimoires for your demons are expensive (Icy Veins).
  • Wands: compare them on damage per second. stillsixty lists Lesser Magic Wand at 11.3, Greater Magic Wand at 17.5 and Lesser Mystic Wand at 25.4.
  • Worth chasing: the Orb or Staff of Soran'ruk (a quest from 20 through Blackfathom Deeps and Shadowfang Keep), the Gravestone Scepter wand (Blackfathom Villainy), Belt of Arugal (Shadowfang Keep), and Bloodmage Mantle (Scarlet Monastery Graveyard).
  • XP extras: Smoked Sagefish or Sagefish Delight (+5% kill XP) and the Cozy Sleeping Bag quest chain from 14 (WoW Forever DB). A Tailoring camp gives Spirit, which feeds Life Tap (Wowhead).

In dungeons on the way up

  • Bane of Havoc goes on the enemy you are NOT hitting, never on your main target (ForeverDB). It makes this the cleave spec.
  • Threat is your problem. Let the tank get ahead before Searing Pain, Hellfire or Rain of Fire, and don't open on a pack with a big crit.
  • Curse of the Elements on the boss (10% more magic damage taken). Use Curse of Recklessness instead if another Warlock has it (stillsixty).
  • Make a Healthstone for everyone, Soulstone the healer and use Ritual of Summoning (Portal of Summoning at 60) for late players (stillsixty).
  • Before the sacrifice, the Imp's Blood Pact helps the party, and sacrificing the Succubus or Incubus means you have no pet for the rest of the dungeon.

The new-dungeon ranges and locations are from Blizzard's dungeon overview. The Classic ranges are from stillsixty's dungeon page. Forever's ranges are wide and several start later than in Classic, so plan from this list and not from memory. Blizzard's overview doesn't say which dungeons open on day one. Third-party trackers (wowforever.ninja, LFCarry) list all nine new dungeons as available from Nov 4, but we haven't seen that from Blizzard itself, so treat it as likely and not confirmed.

Launch dates (Blizzard): character creation and name reservation opens Oct 27, the game launches Nov 4, 2026 (3:00 p.m. Pacific per Blizzard's announcement), and the first raids (Barrow Deeps for 10, Hyjal Summit for 20 and Onyxia's Lair for 40, which needs the Drakefire attunement) unlock on Dec 9.

Common mistakes

  • Casting Conflagrate early in Immolate's duration before Shadow and Flame 5/5. It consumes the Immolate.
  • Putting Bane of Havoc on your main target. It only helps when it's on the one you're not hitting.
  • Summoning a demon after Demonic Sacrifice. It cancels the 2-hour buff.
  • Pulling with Searing Pain or Hellfire before the tank has threat.
  • Leveling Destruction before 25 and expecting Affliction's speed. It's a Shadow Bolt caster until Conflagrate.
  • Following a talent plan with Malediction in it. It was removed on Oct 15.

Still unclear

  • Whether to level Destruction at all. Every source says it is slow early, and none has tested the respec route.
  • Conflagrate and Incinerate numbers. ForeverDB says they rose between builds with no patch note, so read the tooltips in game.
  • Whether crit beats haste. ForeverDB says crit needs more testing before it moves above haste.
  • How Shadow and Flame's two 10% buffs stack with Demonic Sacrifice and Improved Shadow Bolt in practice. They are listed from the client's talent text and nobody has measured them.
  • Fear range. Blizzard called the 20-yard range an oversight but hasn't fixed it. ForeverDB says no talent extends it, while Classic's Grim Reach did, and nobody has tested Forever's.
  • Soul shard stacking and the Drain Soul shard rate (ForeverDB lists both as open).
  • The Felhunter quest at 30. The Classic chain is in the quest data, but it isn't confirmed in play.
  • Everything from 31 to 60 is past the beta cap, so it comes from the client's talent text and guide authors' theorycraft. That includes Incinerate and Shadow and Flame.
