Engineering is still the toy box in Forever: bombs, scopes, gadgets, and now the camp bots too. Fireworks make 5 instead of 3, Gnomish and Goblin are still the specs, and the Reagent Bot is your first camp object.
TL;DR: pair it with Mining. Save extra blasting powder and bolts, since later recipes use them. Pick Gnomish or Goblin at 200. Buzzek Bracketswing in Gadgetzan teaches Artisan.
The basics in Forever
- Ranks: Engineering uses the same four ranks as Classic Era: Apprentice (75), Journeyman (150), Expert (225) and Artisan (300). The cap is still 300.
- Character level to train: Zockify lists Journeyman at level 10, Expert at 20 and Artisan at 35. SenseOS notes that the client files don't contain level requirements, so these numbers are unconfirmed until launch.
- Slots: you get two primary professions. Cooking, First Aid and Fishing are secondary, so you can learn all three on top.
- Unlearning: open the profession window (K) and click the red X. Your skill and every recipe you know are gone.
Trainers: Expert is taught by Springspindle Fizzlegear in Ironforge or Roxxik in Orgrimmar. Artisan is taught by Buzzek Bracketswing in Gadgetzan.

Gnomish or Goblin?
According to Zockify, the spec opens at skill 200 and level 30.
- Gnomish: odd and fun, with BoP toys like the Death Ray and Battle Chicken.
- Goblin: explosions. You get Goblin Sapper Charges, which are strong in PvP and on AoE pulls, and they sell.
Best class & profession pairings
- Engineering + Mining is the standard pairing.
- Hunters use their own scopes and ammo-style crafts.
- PvP players of any class get bombs, nets and Sappers.
- Rogues and Warriors get a lot out of the stun bombs and the Goblin Sapper.
Key recipes & rewards
- Fireworks make 5 per craft now.
- Scopes, bombs and the Explosive Sheep.
- Arclight Spanner, which you need for most recipes.
- Reagent Bot: your first camp object. The Repair Bot comes later, as a dungeon Blueprint.
Your camp objects
Forever adds Camping. A cook places a Basic Campfire, and each player can add one profession object to it. A camp holds 3 objects, and the objects share a 1-hour cooldown. Sit at the camp for 1 minute and you become rested and pick up the buffs. Camp buffs don't stack with the class buffs they copy. You get the first object at skill 20. The more advanced objects come from Blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses.
Engineering objects: Reagent Bot (first, at skill 20), Repair Bot, Anarchist's Workbench.
Legacy points
Per SenseOS, a crafting profession gives 1 Legacy point each at 150, 225 and 300, so 3 in total. Each character can spend 16 points at launch. The Professions tree has Working Overtime, Bountiful Harvest, Bartering, Performance Bonus, Master Chef, Luremaster and Dedicated Study. Hitting 300 also opens up the profession's Certification: 1,000 Merchant's Favor for an account-wide title.
Gold tips
- Bronze Tubes: Zockify notes Alliance quest demand for them, so they're worth a few listings.
- Waylaid Crate: Parts accepts Copper Bolts, Copper Tubes or Copper Modulators. It's a cheap source of Merchant's Favor while you level.
- Goblin Sapper Charges and fireworks are the most likely steady sellers. Nobody knows launch prices yet.
Common mistakes
- Vendoring blasting powder and bolts early. You'll need them again later.
- Choosing a spec only for one toy. You can't switch without unlearning.
- Leaving the Arclight Spanner in the bank.
FAQ
Is Engineering good for PvE? Bombs and Sappers help, and the Repair Bot camp object is useful in dungeons.
