WoW: Forever Cooking Guide: Leveling 1–300 and Running the Campfire

Cooking matters more in Forever because cooks run the campfire. You place the Basic Campfire, and everyone else adds their profession camp objects to it. The leveling route itself is close to Classic's.

TL;DR: cook what you loot while you level. Buy the Expert Cookbook at 125, and do the Clamlette Surprise chain in Gadgetzan for Artisan. Fishing plus Cooking still covers most of the route.

The basics in Forever

  • Ranks: Cooking uses the same four ranks as Classic Era: Apprentice (75), Journeyman (150), Expert (225) and Artisan (300). The cap is still 300.
  • Character level to train: Zockify lists Journeyman at level 10, Expert at 20 and Artisan at 35. SenseOS notes that the client files don't contain level requirements, so these numbers are unconfirmed until launch.
  • Slots: Cooking is a secondary profession. It doesn't use one of your two primary slots.
  • Unlearning: open the profession window (K) and click the red X. Your skill and every recipe you know are gone.

Leveling path by skill range

SkillRecipes
1–50Charred Wolf Meat, Roasted Boar Meat, Herb Baked Egg and similar
50–100Smoked Bear Meat, Strider Stew, Coyote Steak, Boiled Clams
100–130Crab Cake, Dry Pork Ribs, Cooked Crab Claw, Bristle Whisker Catfish
125Expert Cookbook from Shandrina (Ashenvale) or Wulan (Desolace). Needs level 20 and skill 125
130–175Curiously Tasty Omelet, Hot Lion Chops
175–225Roast Raptor, Soothing Turtle Bisque, Mithril Head Trout
225Artisan: a quest chain to Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan. Clamlette Surprise needs 12 Giant Egg, 10 Zesty Clam Meat and 20 Alterac Swiss. Requires level 35 and skill 225 ⚠️
225–275Monster Omelet, Filet of Redgill, Spotted Yellowtail, Undermine Clam Chowder, Tender Wolf Steak ⚠️
275–300Nightfin Soup, Poached Sunscale Salmon (Gikkix, Steamwheedle Port) ⚠️

⚠️ = above the level-30 beta. The level requirements come from Zockify and are unconfirmed.

The campfire

  • A cook places the Basic Campfire. It holds 3 camp objects, one per player, sharing a 1-hour cooldown.
  • Journeyman and Expert Campfires have more slots (5 or 10).
  • Cooking also has Cookie's Feast and the Iron Oven as Blueprint objects.
  • Sitting at the camp for 1 minute makes you rested and gives you everyone's camp buffs. They don't stack with matching class buffs.

Fishing skill food

Some fish dishes now give Fishing skill for 15 minutes: Loch Frenzy Delight +3, Fillet of Frenzy +5, Bristle Whisker Catfish +8, Rockscale Cod +12, Filet of Redgill +18, Spinefin Halibut +18.

Best class & profession pairings

  • Everyone should take it. It's secondary and costs no slot.
  • Cooking + Fishing covers a lot of the route.
  • Hunters can feed their pets and cook in the same trip.

Legacy points

SenseOS's client data shows Legacy points coming only from crafting professions (at 150, 225 and 300). Gathering and secondary professions give none. Wowhead's wording is "each tradeskill", which disagrees, so treat this as unconfirmed until launch. The Professions Legacy tree still has perks that matter here: Bountiful Harvest, Bartering, Master Chef, Luremaster and others.

Gold tips

  • Buff food sells at every level cap. At launch, aim for whatever raiders need.
  • The Master Chef perk is in the Professions Legacy tree. Check what it does before you spend on it.
  • Cheap starter meat can be cooked for skill rather than sold. Beta prices don't tell us what it will sell for live.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting the Expert Cookbook at 125. You'll stall without it.
  • Getting to the Artisan chain without the reagents. Collect the Giant Eggs, clam meat and Alterac Swiss early.

FAQ

Who puts down the campfire? A cook, using Cooking.

Do camp buffs stack with Kings, Arcane Intellect and the rest? No. They don't stack with the class buffs they copy.
