Holy Priest Dungeon Healing in WoW: Forever — Level 30 Build, Heal Priority, Mana Rules & What Oct 15 Changed

This follow-up to our Priest starter guide and the Shadow leveling post covers Holy healing in dungeons, levels 20–30. It's based on Icy Veins' Holy Priest guide (updated Oct 16), BrokenMeta's Holy page and Blizzard's beta development notes through the October 15 build. Forever launches Nov 4, 2026. The beta is capped at level 30, so the deeper Holy talents (Binding Heal, Prayer of Mending, Litany of Light) haven't been tested in play.

Icy Veins' level 30 build (21 points)

TalentPointsWhy
Wand Specialization2Wanding while your mana comes back
Spirit Tap5Mana and Spirit after kills
Twilight Focus3
Improved Renew3Stronger HoT
Holy Specialization2Crit for heals and Holy damage
Divine Fury5Faster Heal and Smite casts
Holy Nova1AoE damage on a Searing Light proc

Group-healer variant: Icy Veins suggests dropping Wand Specialization and Spirit Tap for Spiritual Guidance and Spiritual Healing if you only heal groups. It also notes that Holy is "mildly outshined by Discipline" until later levels.

Healing priority (Icy Veins)

  1. Power Word: Shield on whoever is about to take a big hit.
  1. Heal as your main heal. It's mana-efficient once Divine Fury cuts the cast time.
  1. Renew to top up and cover movement.
  1. Flash Heal only in emergencies, because it costs a lot of mana.
  1. Prayer of Healing when most of the party is hurt.
  1. Holy Nova for AoE damage on a Searing Light proc. Don't use it as a heal while the group is in danger.
  1. Dispel magic and diseases when they matter.

Mana

  • The 5-second rule: Spirit regen only works fully when you haven't cast for 5 seconds. Icy Veins recommends stopping between pulls instead of chain-casting.
  • Downrank. A low-rank Heal on light damage costs far less mana than a full one.
  • Don't overheal. Cancel a cast if the target is already topped up.
  • Wand between pulls and while you wait for the 5-second rule. Since Oct 15, you have to stand still for 0.5 seconds before a wand fires (Blizzard). Weave wand shots in carefully.

Stats (Icy Veins): Healing Power > MP5 > Spirit > Intellect > Crit. Races: Icy Veins picks Gnome (Contingency Plan) for Alliance and Undead for Horde. Blizzard reworked several racials on Oct 15, so that advice may be out of date.

Gear notes (Icy Veins): Robes and Belt of Arugal (Shadowfang Keep), the Death Speaker set, and Scholarly Pendant. Icy Veins flags Healer's Staff as bugged on the beta, so double-check its stats before you buy it.

Beyond level 30 (not testable yet)

These plans come from talent text only:

  • Binding Heal: heals you and your target at the same time.
  • Litany of Light: refunds 10% of the base mana cost when you switch to a different spell.
  • Prayer of Mending: 10-second cooldown. Jumps to a target within 20 yards each time it heals, and lasts 30 seconds per jump.

Level 60 point splits vary. BrokenMeta plans 20/31/0 (Discipline/Holy/Shadow), but notes that its simulator doesn't model healing. Other community calculators show 18/33/0. Treat all of these as starting points.

What changed in recent builds

Oct 15 build (Blizzard):

  • Mental Strength (Discipline) moved to row 2 and now gives 2–10% Intellect.
  • Improved Power Word: Shield moved to row 3.
  • Inner Focus now only affects one spell.
  • Fixed Renew when more than one Priest cast it on the same target, and fixed a Power Word: Shield messaging bug.
  • Gnome Eureka! is now an 8-second buff, and it now benefits Power Word: Shield.

Earlier: Sept 24 made Renew and Power Word: Shield able to crit. Oct 1 stopped Inner Focus's crit bonus from affecting periodic effects. Oct 8 adjusted Lesser Heal and Heal rank levels, and reworked Penance.

Still unclear

  • How Inner Focus and Renew crits interact after the Oct 15 Renew fix. Nobody has posted tests yet.
  • Whether Healer's Staff gets fixed before launch.
  • Binding Heal, Litany of Light and Prayer of Mending in real play. All three are past the level 30 cap.
